This Privacy Policy explains how converter-epub.com ("we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use our free browser-based EPUB converter (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.

The Short Version

Your files never leave your device. That’s the whole point of the tool. We do not upload, store, transmit, or process your files on any server. The EPUB conversion happens entirely in your browser using JavaScript.

The only data we collect is minimal, anonymous analytics (page views, country) that any website collects. We do not know what files you convert, what’s in them, or even if you convert anything at all.

1. Information We Do NOT Collect

Because the conversion is client-side, we have no access to:

  • Your source files (DOCX, HTML, TXT)
  • The EPUB files you generate
  • File names, sizes, or content
  • What you’re converting or why

This is verifiable: open your browser’s DevTools (F12) → Network tab → disable Wi-Fi → convert a file. The conversion still works because no network call is made.

2. Information We Do Collect

When you visit converter-epub.com, our hosting provider (Cloudflare) and analytics service (Google Analytics 4) may collect:

  • IP address — used for geo-targeting and abuse prevention. Cloudflare may log this; we do not have direct access to logs beyond aggregated stats.
  • Browser type and version — to ensure the converter works on your browser.
  • Referrer URL — to understand which sites link to us.
  • Pages visited — via Google Analytics 4 (anonymized).
  • Country (city-level at most) — derived from IP, used for analytics.

We do not collect names, emails, phone numbers, or any other personal identifiers unless you voluntarily provide them (e.g., in a contact form, if we add one).

3. Cookies and Local Storage

converter-epub.com uses minimal cookies and browser local storage:

We do not use advertising cookies, third-party tracking pixels, or cross-site identifiers.

You can disable cookies in your browser settings. The converter will still work.

4. Third-Party Services

The only third parties that may process data when you use our service are:

  • Cloudflare — our CDN and hosting provider. Cloudflare processes requests through their global edge network. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
  • Google Analytics 4 — anonymous analytics. See Google’s privacy policy. You can opt out with the GA opt-out browser add-on.
  • mammoth.js / JSZip — open-source libraries loaded from cdnjs (Cloudflare CDN) or self-hosted. They run in your browser, not on a server.

We do not share data with any other third parties.

5. Data Retention

  • Google Analytics data: 14 months (our config, shorter than GA4’s 26-month default).
  • Cloudflare access logs: typically 7 days, then aggregated/erased. We have no direct access.
  • Your files: never stored. They exist only in your browser’s memory during the conversion and are discarded when you close the tab.

6. Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA / UK GDPR)

Under various privacy regulations, you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you (in our case, this is essentially zero)
  • Erasure — request deletion of any data we may have (we have nothing tied to your identity)
  • Object — object to processing for direct marketing (we don’t do this)
  • Portability — request data in a machine-readable format

To exercise these rights, contact us via the author profile (see Section 9). We respond within 30 days.

7. Children’s Privacy

converter-epub.com is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The tool is safe for all ages to use.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be announced on the homepage.

Note: We do not run our own email server, so please don’t expect to email us directly. The about.me profile has a contact form.

10. The Technical Proof

The most important section of this Privacy Policy is verifiable by you, with no trust required:

  1. Open converter-epub.com in your browser
  2. Open DevTools (F12 or Cmd+Opt+I) and go to the Network tab
  3. Disable your internet connection (turn off Wi-Fi or unplug ethernet)
  4. Convert a file — the conversion will still succeed, because no file data was ever sent to a server

If the conversion fails with no internet, the site is uploading your file (and this Privacy Policy is wrong). If it succeeds, the site is genuinely client-side and the policy is accurate.

Privacy is a feature, not a promise. We encourage you to verify it yourself.
